Middle School Clubs

The Science Club is an opportunity for students to go further into depth with science topics, and share what they are excited and curious about. Recent projects and presentations have included growing bacterial agar plates to compare colonies from different surface samples at Nueva, presentations on the latest astronomy discoveries, launching water rockets, a plant-based burger cookout, exploring Gravitational Lensing, and preparing projects for Nueva’s STEM fair.
 

In the Community Service Club, students work together, both as a whole group and in small teams, to help tackle some of today’s most challenging issues: from climate change to human rights, from local matters to global concerns. 
 

This club meets to discuss topics of gender equity with a focus on how gender can affect access to education, health, and technology around the world. Students look at their own community and other communities as models. The club also sponsors fundraising events, invites speakers, and takes on long-term projects to raise awareness on gender equity issues in the community. 

This is an affinity space for students who identify as African American/Black. The purpose of this space and group is to discuss and advocate around issues that impact the Black community. Together students celebrate Black culture, build community, and collaborate to bring awareness to Black history and their lived experiences to the larger Nueva community. 

In Coding Club, students have many options with which they can engage in coding and computer science: they can work on computer science homework, getting support from I-Lab Director Angi Chau; they can work on a personal project (that will be presented during a club meeting); they can do coding challenges; or they can find an online coding course to take.
