The Nueva Upper School's inquiry-based math curriculum enables students to discover their love of mathematics regardless of their background. It is modeled on the belief that "stage, not age" determines the rigor of courses given to students.
All Nueva mathematics courses emphasize intellectual risk-taking, computational thinking, proof and heuristics, and integrated use of information technology. Our courses encourage students to explore the interplay between the beauty of pure mathematics and the remarkable ubiquity of real world applications.
In conjunction with our integrated math core sequence, we offer a wide range of diverse electives which are organized by ability and branch out by interest to ensure each student is challenged.
Examples of advanced topic electives include: Algebra & Geometry, The Elegant Logic of Computer Science, Discrete Mathematics and Calculus, Knot Theory and Knitting, and Cryptology.
