Upper School Electives

Elective schedules at Nueva are unique and flexible in structure. 

Interdisciplinary electives provide students with a plethora of opportunities to develop their passions and explore new areas of potential interest. Upper School students may take one or two electives alongside six core courses.

  • Electives give students choice to take multiple languages simultaneously — a student taking Mandarin can also take Japanese. Through this choice students also have flexibility in how they complete their core academic requirements; Physics, Environmental Earth Science, and Advanced Experimental Design Analysis are all electives classes.

  • Electives empower students to advance at an accelerated pace — a student can take Math 1 and Math 2A in one year. Post-calculus courses (multivariable calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, etc.) are also offered in the form of elective classes.

Electives offer the opportunity to not only bolster core courses, but also to explore other areas of interest. Offerings range from Machine Learning to Drug Design, from Stained Glass to International Relations, and everything in between..
