Middle School Design Thinking

Students are given many opportunities to cultivate and master their Design Thinking and engineering skills throughout the Middle School. Students participate in a Design Engineering class each year, learning how to effectively brainstorm and prototype, complete the Design Thinking process, and use various tools including the laser cutter, the jigsaw, and the 3D printer.

The program aims to develop students’ confidence in Design Thinking skills, including identifying needs and developing solutions. Students understand that iteration and failure is an important part of any process. Whether it is making games specifically designed and created for children in hospitals or learning how to create more sustainable housing, students are learning how to effectively create solutions for specific needs that they identify around them.
