Celebrating the Nueva Class of 2020!

We see you! While senior year is not what everyone expected it would be for the Class of 2020, Nueva is here for you. This page will be used to share information and stories about our seniors and end-of-year culminations.

We will continue to host our traditional senior celebrations—senior dinner, the lifer dinner, and graduation—to celebrate the Class of 2020. With input from seniors and their parents, Nueva school leadership is working to reimagine these events while remaining quintessentially Nueva.

"As things were changing daily, I was humbled by all that it takes to navigate this time of transitions: transitioning to remote learning, transitioning to life at home with your families, to life distanced from your friends and your school. Though we were supposed to be together, you put on a flexible attitude and showed us the way. Thank you, Class of 2020, for embracing each other in learning, in grief, and in celebration."

– Brian Cropper, 12th Grade Dean

TO BEGIN THIS PROCESS,
we asked seniors and their families three guiding questions:

  1. What’s central to celebrating and finding closure?
  2. What’s important to do?
  3. What’s nice to do?

Here's What We Heard:

"I believe that walking across a stage to receive your diploma in front of your friends, family, and classmates is something that is central to having closure."

"Gather the class of 2020 and faculty in their own cars, in a large open area (like a drive-in movie theater or a large parking lot). We would still be respecting the social distancing guidelines, and also be able to have everyone gathered together as a class. Within that framework, there are also many different ways to adapt, such as loudspeakers, films and music, or using the parking strategies effectively."

"I think it would be nice to acknowledge faculty."

"I never got a chance to thank all of my teachers before everything shut down; we were all so sure that we had one more day. I'd like a chance to do something for the teachers that have done so much for me and my siblings."

"Celebrating their accomplishments and celebrating their future potential."

"It is really about bringing the kids together."

"I think it would be really meaningful to have old teachers join the virtual celebrations."
