Nueva’s athletics program has achieved great success as a PreK–12 school.
Our students pursue multiple passions, and, for many, representing Nueva as scholar-athletes is vital to their experience. Our participation is significant for such a young program: 64% of students in grades 4–8 and 50% of Upper School students participate in Nueva athletics.
In three years, the Upper Schools girls soccer team has gone from nonexistent to undefeated in the PSAL.
This season, the girls basketball team is in a unique situation: half of the players are also members of the Robotics Team 4904: Bot-Provoking.
With a small and mighty crew of nine swimmers, the team placed sixth at the West Bay Athletic League (WBAL) Championship meet on Saturday, April 27 against teams with over 50 swimmers.
“Nueva’s Upper School winter varsity teams had their best season on record,” said Chris Wade, Interim PreK-12 Athletic Director.
They ran, they swam, they swung, they scored. After a stellar year, upper school student athletes and their families came together last week to celebrate their accomplishments. Check out highlights from their 2016–2017 athletics slideshow.
Building off the momentum of highly successful fall and winter seasons, Nueva’s Upper School athletics program launches spring sports this week. Teams taking to the field include: Boys’ Tennis, Co-ed Track & Field, Girls’ Softball, and Boys’ Golf. Tennis will field both a Junior Varsity and Varsity squad for the first time this season, with close to 30 students participating. We are also excited to announce the new addition of co-ed Swimming & Diving to this spring’s line-up.
When Nueva’s Upper School first opened three years ago, the volleyball team won one game its first season. Today, the team is 6–1 in league play and is hoping to make the playoffs.
