Please join us for a hybrid (livestreamed) roundtable discussion on culture and meaning in social media. Students, parents, and faculty are all welcome! Our panelists will be discussing the following questions:
- How does the platform design affect the type of discourse it hosts?
- How has the growing popularity and reach of social media affected the political landscape and vice versa (how do politics affect the reach and effects of social media)?
- How is access to social network data regulated?
Panelists:
- Shelby Grossman is a political scientist whose recent work has focused on elucidating the effects of social media on political culture.
- Sarah Shugars is a computational social scientist, studying political communication and political behavior by developing new methods in natural language processing, network analysis, and machine learning.
Roundtable is a student-led club that aims to organize discussions around intellectually stimulating and relevant social sciences topics. If you have any questions about Roundtable, please email Natalie S. with any questions.
