Our concert series, Succulent Sound Garden, is adapting to the times. We’re now Sofa Sound Garden! From living rooms to kitchen tables, backyards to garages, Nueva students and faculty will continue to share their love of music from home.
Fifth graders Cameron L., Finn R., and Parker S. won’t let social distancing stop their band, Beyond California, from making music. They just had to get creative! If weeks of sheltering at home has you feeling a little restless, look no further than their Green Day mashup. It’s the energy release we all need!
“We wanted to perform the songs live, but we were limited because of the quarantine," Parker explained. "I wanted to share our performance and also make people smile while watching a fun video. I enjoyed making the video, but it was not as gratifying as performing live with Finn and Cameron.”
According to Finn, "The songs in this video are part of what we were going to perform for the Nueva Talent Show. I felt sad that we missed the talent show, but since this was a recording, I was able to add harmony and we were able to add backing vocals as well. My favorite part of making the video was getting to drum with the celery. I really liked the part where my dog, Skittles, was sitting on the drum stool as if she were the drummer. It was fun making this video because everyone was in a different place, but we were able to make it look so good."
"During this process, I felt connected to Parker and Finn through the music," he said. "I can't wait to play with them in person soon."
"Working with Beyond California every week has been a pleasure," said Nueva band teacher Jason Muscat."Parker, Finn, and Cameron are dedicated musicians that know how to rock and have fun . . . musical maturity beyond their years!
