Nueva is a founding member of the Common Ground Speaker Series, a parent education consortium comprised of 30 schools spanning the San Francisco Peninsula from Hillsborough to San Jose.
Each year, Common Ground features a slate of nationally-acclaimed speakers, topics, and special events, addressing a wide array of issues confronting parents and educators. Common Ground's aim is to provide a forum to learn from experts, share ideas with others, and support each other’s efforts to build strong families, engaging schools, and healthy communities.
Events take place primarily at member schools. Nueva community members are invited to all Common Ground Speaker Series events. Parents, faculty, and staff from Common Ground member schools are admitted to the events free of charge.
We encourage you to explore this season’s speakers and calendar.

“Parenting is one of the hardest jobs in the world, but also one of the most rewarding,” said Dr. Laura Markham as she addressed a crowd of parents and teachers gathered in the Bay Meadows gym at the recent Common Ground Speaker Series event, Peaceful Parents, Happy Kids. “As a parent of a strong-willed child, I understand the struggle with showing unconditional love and acceptance of our kids, while still needing to teach them to be successful in the real world.”
Parent socials, community dialogues, Common Ground Speaker Series, the Book Fair… so much is happening at Nueva. What’s it all about?
It’s the NPA, the Nueva Parents Association, hosting the many back-to-school offerings that connect and reconnect us.
Parent participation enriches the lives of our students, parents, faculty, and staff. One of the truly wonderful aspects of Nueva is the way parent participation is welcomed and intentionally weaves Nueva’s motto, Learn by Doing, Learn by Caring, throughout the supportive and inclusive culture.
At the season kick-off of the 2017-2018 Common Ground Speaker Series on September 27, Robert Sapolsky, a distinguished neuroscientist, author, and Stanford University professor, captivated a full gymnasium of attendees at Nueva’s Bay Meadows campus.
At Nueva, we seek opportunities to teach the whole student and to connect learning to all aspects of students’ lives. Recently we have been reflecting on ways to develop habits that exploit the best qualities of our ubiquitous digital devices while maintaining life balance.
