FS 50thCelebration HERONearly 1,800 members of the Nueva community past and present joined together on the Hillsborough campus on Monday, May 29, making the 50th celebration party a huge success!

Although the sky was gray and the temperature chilly, the warmth was overflowing as friends and colleagues reunited and connected with current students, families, faculty, and staff, all honoring Nueva with their presence.

Everywhere you could hear, “I have such wonderful memories of this place,” and “Wow, this is new since I came to school here!” There were high-fives as alumni encountered one another, and embraces all around with versions of “It’s so great to see you!” and “How long has it been?” lingering in the air.

The GCC and its surrounds were filled with the laughter of children and their parents playing skee-ball, ping-pong, air hockey, Whac-a-mole, and giant Jenga. Just across the plaza, music of the 60s energized the atmosphere as families hopped in the VW bus for a photo shoot, and the body-marbling booth drew a crowd. All the while, food trucks dispensing pizza, BBQ, Indian specialties, ice cream tacos, and much more kept everyone well fed.

As it has for decades, music filled the ballroom with a rich program: a special presentation by Greg Pliska and the Campfire String Quartet, and individual performances by students and music faculty. Throughout the entire party, the Café was alive with performances by a series of lively rock, pop, and steel drum bands that featured over 130 Nueva students.

Community members flocked to the kindergarten lawn for homemade donuts, and both young and old alike were entertained by the Bubble Guy. The lawn was also a gathering place for alumni, where they could write a memory of Nueva and see an architect’s rendering of future campus projects.

And everyone took a joyful pause in the revelry to gather for an essential party element: the cake!

Event Chairperson Shannon Wong gave thanks to the Nueva community, who truly came out in force to support this great milestone. She said, “As I reflect on the 50th event, my heart is bursting with gratitude: for the parents and students, who are so full of HEART, saying 'yes' to one more volunteer role no matter how much they were already juggling; for the staff who were so willing to help out in any way they could; and for the unwavering support of Diane and the Administration Team who gave everything to make this possible. Thank you for the chance to offer this 50th birthday gift to Nueva.”
