How to Apply for a Financial Award

School and Student Services

Nueva uses School and Student Services (SSS) to process all applications for tuition financial assistance. To apply, you will need to create a family account with SSS at and follow the instructions provided. The financial award application website becomes available in early October.

The Nueva School's recipient code is 5473

  What to Expect

  1. Within SSS, you will be walked through the steps needed to complete a Parents' Financial Statement (PFS) and a Household Budget. The due date for submitting these two items is January 12, 2018.
  2. The application process requires you to provide very specific information about your household income, expenses, and assets, along with a copy of your tax returns for the year just ended and several other financial documents. If you are not used to preparing your taxes very early, please note that applying for financial assistance will require you to do so.
  3. You will be asked to upload the following tax forms and financial records into SSS. The due date for submitting these items is February 2, 2018. We are not able to finalize an award offer until we have them.
    1. Your completed 2017 Federal Income Tax Return (including all pages, forms, and schedules). [See FAQ about initially using a preliminary draft of your return]
    2. Your completed 2016 Federal Income Tax Return (including all pages, forms, and schedules). [Not required for returning families if submitted previously]
    3. All 2017 W-2 and 1099 forms.
    4. A paystub from November and December for each wage-earning parent or guardian.
    5. IRS Form 4506-T, signed and dated.
  4. You will find places within the PFS to describe to us your specific family situation and explain why you are requesting financial assistance, if you would like to do so. You can also send an explanatory letter directly to the Admissions Office (
  5. The estimated family contribution (EFC) figure generated by SSS is an important data-supported input to our evaluation and decision-making efforts. Do not be alarmed if the EFC figure that SSS shows you seems high. Among the adjustments that Nueva makes to the SSS number is the introduction of a cost of living adjustment specific to the San Francisco Bay Area.
  6. The Financial Awards Committee uses the adjusted EFC, along with the other information you provide, when developing award offers. New applicants will learn about their award at the same time they learn whether they are being offered a place in the School. Returning students will receive their award offer in February or early March.
  7. The financial resources available to each of a student’s parents or legal guardians are considered when we make our award decisions, regardless of their current marital status or what portion of the time the student lives in their household. Each must therefore contribute to the completion of an award application prior to the deadline. Those who share a household may do so jointly. Those who do not should do so separately. SSS will link the applications together in the background.

  1. The PFS and Household Budget must be submitted by January 11, 2019.
  2. All tax documents and required financial records must be uploaded or delivered to the School by February 1, 2019.

Additional Information

  1. All required forms and records can be delivered directly to Nueva if you prefer, and we will upload them on your behalf.
  2. Returning families need to submit a financial award application each year since awards do not automatically renew.
  3. Admissions decisions are made independently of financial award considerations and awards are based solely on financial need.
  4. Financial awards are given to Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12 students.

Reduced fees for Application or IQ Evaluation

The process of applying for reduced fees is a separate process from applying for a Financial Award. If you have any questions about reduced fees, please contact us at

Additional Financial Support for Enrolled Students

In order to enable full engagement in our wide range of school programs and activities, Nueva also offers assistance with selected other school-related expenses, beyond tuition and fees, for students receiving tuition financial awards.
