Nueva Quest empowers students to transform evolving passions into in-depth, self-directed inquiry.

Throughout their four years of high school, students have the unique opportunity to pursue their own interests. Students may elect to pursue one field of study over four years or to frame and complete a series of different Quests, each taking one or more years. Quest is an opportunity for students to practice design thinking by crafting personal in-depth inquiry in a self-selected area of evolving passion.

Past students have built carbon sequestration devices, written novels, composed music based on Greek mythology, built intricate furniture, hosted podcasts, designed prosthetic hands, coded websites and apps, and so much more.

Quest teachers, mentors, online resources, and internships support students, guiding them as they improve mastery in their areas of passion while teaching them how to recruit future mentors and navigate in the real world. Quest is an extension of the eighth-grade Recital Project established more than twenty years ago.

What does Quest look like?

Students start by reflecting on their interests and curiosities, then dive into research—seeking out experts, gathering resources, and learning everything they can. Along the way, they build empathy, deepen their thinking, and uncover real-world needs. They design a focused yet flexible path of study, brainstorm challenges, and explore solutions. Through ongoing feedback and iteration, they prototype, refine, and ultimately bring their ideas to life—developing the resilience and skills to see their vision through.
