New Visible Learning Project Posters Focus on PreK–12 Initiatives
Jim Morrison. Director of Student Outreach and Special Projects
Earlier this month, three new Visible Learning Project posters were displayed at both campuses and online. The Visible Learning Project, now its fourth year, aims to authentically document learning for the Nueva community. The posters provide students, teachers, parents, and campus visitors with a dynamic, informative space to celebrate and reflect upon learning at Nueva.
The latest round focuses on the documentation Katie Saylor gathered on the experiences of our Upper School internship participants this past summer, Nueva’s PreK–12 work related to environmental citizenship, and the PreK–12 classes and projects related to social justice and equity.
“The VLP serves two important purposes simultaneously—communicating the interesting and meaningful learning that our students are engaged in across the school and celebrating our students’ thinking and contributions,” said Nueva Director of Teaching and Learning Elizabeth Rossini.
“This round of the VLP highlights the transferable ideas that are being addressed across the Lower, Middle and Upper Schools within the key learning areas of environmental citizenship and social justice and equity. While the specific context of the learning is developmentally appropriate to the grade or age band, the broad ideas are transferable across all grades.”
Jim Morrison, steward of the Visible Learning Project, said, “I see the VLP as a way to celebrate the work our teachers and students are doing each and every day in their classrooms. The VLP presents the opportunity to open our classroom doors and hear from our students and teachers while they are engaged in their work. As tours of visiting educators and prospective families come through campus, the posters provide an opportunity to explain why we teach the way we do and shine a spotlight on the process.”
According to PreK–12 Equity & Social Justice Director Alegria Barclay, “It is important to make the work of our community visible. Knowing about the efforts of our colleagues and our past and future students helps to build a beloved community. The latest VLP posters allow our values on to be on display.”
The three newest posters, and an archive of all previous work, are available to view and download on our website.
