Health and Wellness

Nueva is proud to offer free health, dental, and vision insurance to full-time employees. Nueva provides additional benefit support for employees with dependents (spouse and/or children) by covering a substantial portion of the monthly premiums.

Wellness

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
Nueva provides all employees access to its EAP. In partnership with Magellan Health, employees have access to confidential services at free or low cost. 

Sick Time
Faculty earn 10 sick days per year. Year-round staff earn 12 sick days per year. Sick time is prorated on full-time equivalency.

Benefit Spotlight: Reproductive Care Coverage

Nueva offers an upgraded Blue Shield plan for employees interested in having additional reproductive care coverage. This coverage can lower the cost of assisted reproductive technology procedures and associated services.

Retirement Planning

Nueva helps employees meet their retirement goals through Roth or traditional 403(b) retirement plans sponsored by the school. Nueva recognizes the importance of planning for your future and matches employees’ contributions as indicated below:

  • Years 1–3
    50% matching up to 3.5% of salary
     
  • Years 4 and up
    100% matching up to 7% of salary

Supplemental

Nueva, in partnership with MetLife, offers a wide variety of supplemental insurance plans from which employees may select at a minimal pre-negotiated group rate. These plans include:

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

Nueva offers eligible employees enrollment in pre-tax Medical FSA and Dependent Care FSA programs. These programs help with costs associated with medical bills, co-pays, child care, and more. In recognition of the importance to these programs, Nueva matches employee FSA contributions to both programs as indicated below:

  • Years 1–3
    50% matching up to $2,500
     
  • Years 4 and up
    100% matching up to $2,500

Health Savings Account (HSA)

Employees who participate in a high-deductible health plan (HDHP) are eligible to enroll in a health savings account (HSA) where you can set aside pre-tax dollars that can be used towards medical, dental, and vision expenses.

  • All Enrollees
    $2,500 annual contribution from the school

Pet Insurance

Nueva recognizes that furry friends are family ,too! Nueva offers two pet insurance plans that employees may choose from for their dogs and cats. Nueva helps take the stress out of unexpected vet bills by covering 25% of the premium for either of these plans:

Benefit Spotlight: Lunch Program

While school is in session, employees are provided lunch on both campuses. Our lunch program offers a variety of options to meet our community’s dietary needs. It's not uncommon to find salmon, samosas, sandwiches, and tacos! In addition, we offer a salad and sandwich bar. Like coffee? We do, too! Coffee is available to  faculty and staff every morning.
 




Work-Life Balance

Equally important to our time at work is our time away. Our time-off benefits are designed to provide a meaningful work-life balance for everyone.

School Breaks

Nueva has five weeks of breaks during the school year. 

Faculty members are off during these breaks. Staff members have 8–10 paid non-work days per year that occur during the five school-break weeks.
 

 

Holidays

Faculty and 10-month staff receive up to 10 paid holidays per year.

Nueva’s 12-month staff receive up to 12 paid holidays per year.

 

Other Time Off

Personal Time
All employees receive up to 3 days annually.

Faculty members receive a summer break that is approximately eight weeks long, from mid-June through mid-August.

Vacation
Staff members receive vacation based on years of service and full-time equivalency.

  • Years 1–3: 10 days per year
  • Years 4–5: 15 days per year
  • Years 6 and up: 20 days per year

Benefit Spotlight: Paid Parental Leave

Welcoming a new baby to your family can be a stressful time. In conjunction with state pregnancy leave and paid family leave benefits, Nueva takes some of the financial stress away by offering up to 12 weeks of coordinated paid time off for new moms and up to 8 weeks for new dads.



Commuter Benefits

Lessening our impact on the environment while making it easier for employees to get to work is just part of what Nueva does to take care of its employees.

Hillsborough Campus

Employees primarily based at our Hillsborough Campus are offered a subsidy for their commute with BART. We offer a free shuttle between our campus and the Millbrae BART station to employees, too!

Employees primarily based at our San Mateo Campus are provided with a free Caltrain GoPass. With our Upper School campus just one block from the Hillsdale Caltrain station, it is common for employees to run into colleagues and students on their way into work.

For employees who drive an electric-powered vehicle, we offer EV charging stations on both campuses.

Professional Development

Employees are regularly offered professional development opportunities. It is common to travel and learn at national conferences, earn certificates, and more.

Flu Shots

Our Health Department works in partnership with a local clinic to provide free onsite flu shot clinics for our faculty and staff.

Employee Tuition Support

All employees are eligible for a $15,000 lifetime benefit of reimbursement for education completed during their tenure. 

Onsite Yoga Classes

Are you an inner yogi? Try one of our yoga classes, available to employees weekly. 

Affinity Groups

Faculty and staff members are encouraged to participate in the various affinity groups offered on campus. These groups provide a welcoming and inclusive environment, fostering a sense of belonging among participants. 

Onsite Fitness

Students aren't the only ones able to exercise on campus! Employees are welcome to hike the Hillsborough campus trails and use the San Mateo campus weight room.

 

Carpool Finder

Nueva offers a convenient carpool finder on our internal website to assist employees looking to carpool.

Technology and Software

All employees are provided the latest technology and software so they may do their best work.

Cell Phone Reimbursement

All employees receive a $25 a month cell phone reimbursement to help with your monthly phone bill.

Employee Referral Bonus

Current employees are eligible to earn a bonus when a referred candidate is hired by Nueva. By adding a valuable member to our community, Nueva thanks you with a bonus of $2,000 to $5,000, depending on the position. 

Tuition Remission

Faculty and staff who have children enrolled at Nueva receive a discount on annual tuition. Part-time faculty and staff are eligible for a prorated discount as well!

Arguably one of the best benefits of joining Nueva is being a part of our engaging community. We are a community of people from many racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds and we gather together often. Additionally, Nueva hosts many annual events and international conferences. Even our Parent Association joins in on the fun by hosting regular events, delivering gifts, and sharing thanks with Espresso Bars, Boba Teas, Acai bowls, and more!
