We periodically share a student’s accomplishments in the arts, music, or drama program, highlighting a unique performance or accomplishment. This month, our student showcase features eighth grade violinist and Menuhin Scholar Arianna, in a perspective written by her long-standing violin instructor, Sin-Tung Chiu (pictured right).
Arianna -- with prior training on violin by the Suzuki method -- began her Menuhin violin studies in second grade with Sin-Tung Chiu, who has served as a Menuhin violin instructor since 1991. An inquisitive young student, Arianna continued to thrive and develop in her solo violin studies and in her social-emotional acuities, participating with enthusiasm in the small Menuhin chamber ensembles as well as in the larger Nueva String Ensemble. In sixth grade, Sin-Tung selected Arianna as the Concert Mistress of Nueva String Ensemble, and she has since led admirably as a role model with strong leadership and consistent attendance in all rehearsals and performances.
Arianna made her Menuhin Solo Violin Debut Recital as a sixth grade student, and will play her eighth grade Menuhin Graduation Solo Violin Recital on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at 3 pm in the Ballroom. She will play music by Bach, Bartok, Beethoven, Elgar, Joplin, LeClair, Massenet, Rachmaninoff, Vivaldi, and Williams, among others. Sin-Tung on violin and alumnus Dmitriy Cogan on piano will accompany her.
As a Caroline D. Bradley scholar, Arianna looks forward to attending Phillips Exeter Academy on scholarship.
