Nueva Institutes and Conferences

Thumbnail imageNueva strives to share innovative teaching and learning ideas through various institutes and conferences. For example, the Innovative Learning Conference provides meaningful resources and inspiring direction for parents, teachers, and administrators, as well as continuing education credits for education professionals. The conference addresses a broad range of topics and innovative learning strategies developed for gifted and talented programs, but is broadly applicable for all learners and educators. The conference relays the most compelling issues and effective strategies in innovative education today.

In October 2011, the conference featured internationally preeminent speakers and scholars in the fields of neuroscience, engineering, gaming, differentiated learning, integrated technology, education policy, parenting, and more, through more than fifty presentations, informative panels, and discussions.

Given the widespread benefit of Social-Emotional Learning within a Nueva education, and our school's strong desire to improve education standards and student outcomes beyond our community, a group of educators founded the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Institute. The goal was to offer high-quality professional development to share Nueva's program and to offer participants with tools and skills to introduce and improve SEL initiatives in their schools. The institute was met with resounding success, and more than 200 teachers and administrators have attended to date.

As Nueva has a cutting-edge Innovation Lab (I-Lab), hundreds of visitors from around the world have asked how they can implement Design Thinking in their schools. A pioneer in teaching design thinking to young students, it was a natural evolution for Nueva to develop the Design Thinking Institute to enable fellow educators to effectively create projects to foster their students' design-thinking skills.
