HeroCSLphotoMiddle school students traveled around the Bay Area on October 25 and November 17 for the first Community Service Learning days of the school year.

Nueva’s forts are a treasured play area near the Mansion, once an old olive grove. Beautiful in their simplicity, they draw lower school students into imaginative and social play outdoors.

10 XCChampsBESTgirl IMG 8426Over the Thanksgiving weekend, the Mavericks topped off a very successful season at the CIF State Cross-Country Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno, with a fifth-place finish for the girls’ varsity and a ninth-place finish for the boys’ varsity. Nueva was the only school in the CCS to place both girls’ and boys’ teams in the top ten at the state championship, and one of only three schools in all of Northern California to do so.    

11 Hero Community Committee IMG 9529Every Monday at lunch, students in grades 1–4 gather in a classroom on the second floor of the Mansion to problem-solve ways to improve their community.

The Community Committee, comprising two representatives from each class, provides students the opportunity to put empathy-based design into practice and make a positive impact.

10 Hero Field Trip TMW Hero 39 Food Systems IMG 7299On Thursday, November 9, eighth-grade students set out on five unique field trips aimed at examining food systems from a social, economic, and environmental perspective.

During the day, students were tasked with using their observations and experiences to evaluate a series of problems and the viability of several possible solutions.
