Debate1Nueva's parliamentary and public forum debate teams from both the Upper and Middle Schools were hugely successful at tournaments this past weekend.

At the National Parliamentary Debate Invitational (NPDI) at UC Berkeley on Saturday and Sunday, November 11–12, three Nueva teams — Adam K. and Paco P., Leo R. and Neeraj S., and Ben C. and Ben S. — reached the round of sixteen, otherwise known as the "Octas Round." No other school had this many teams in the top 16. Two of Nueva's teams — Adam and Paco, and Leo and Neeraj — made it all the way to the finals and were declared joint winners.

XC 2017 67The upper school girls' cross-country team defended their CCS championship on Saturday at Toro Park, edging Castilleja by two points to win their second consecutive Central Coast Section title. Nueva placed three runners in the top ten. On the boys' side, Nueva placed second, just three points shy of champion Crystal Springs. The boys finished third one year ago. Four Nueva runners finished in the top ten. The Central Coast Section (CCS) encompasses a geographical region from San Francisco to King’s City and includes over 150 member schools.  Both teams will now advance to the California State Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 25, at Woodward Park in Fresno.

CN FallConferences 300pxMid-semester conferences were held on the last two Fridays, November 3 and November 10, for all grades, with students leading their own conferences beginning in third grade.

Conferences are an integral element in the cycle of evaluation and goal-setting for every student and are a highly valued part of a Nueva education.

Each year, our seventh-grade Spanish students study the aspects of Mexican folklore, history, and mythology found in past and current murals and street art.

After a successful fall sports season — culminating with a second-place finish for the middle school golf team this week at the WBAL tournament, ahead of Sacred Heart and Menlo Schools — the days are getting shorter, there’s a chill in the air, and students are suiting up in their jerseys and cleats to begin the winter sports season.
