CN AllCommunityCSLDayOrganized by Nueva parents Kathie H. and Niru S., Nueva worked with Pacific Beach Coalition to clean up trash at Pillar Point Harbor in Half Moon Bay for the school-wide Family Community Service Learning Day on April 22 (Earth Day). It was a great volunteer opportunity for all ages.

Nueva families represented 57 of the 120 volunteers at Pillar Point Harbor.

The Pacific Coalition collected a total of 1,006 pounds of trash and Nueva families collected over 400 pounds of trash. This was a great way to learn about environmental damage.  Students were shocked at what they discovered in our Pacific Ocean so near to home.  “I can’t believe that I found so much fishing lines and trash.”  Parents and students found everything from a giant tire to small plastics, cigarette butts, tubing, a shovel, plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and so much more.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the families and friends who came to make the event a success.  Everyone expressed the desire to participate again in this type of school community service events.  If you’re interested in getting involved for next school year, please contact the NPA.

We would like to thank Orchard Supply Hardware (OSH) stores in Redwood City and Millbrae and Home Depot for donating buckets and gloves for Nueva’s first school-wide Community Service Day.
