Every year the first grade class explores what it means to be a community. Students look beyond their classrooms to get a better understanding of all the people who make up Nueva and how they each have a role at this school.
Part of this process is venturing from the Hillsborough campus to the Bay Meadows campus to meet the students and staff of the Upper School. Prior to the trip, students brainstormed questions to bring with them: What is your job at Nueva? How does your work affect Nueva and our first grade class? How would you improve the Nueva community? As anthropologists in training, students each played a role in the documentation process: interviewers, note takers, photographers, and sketchers.
