girlsWinTechSeventh graders, Anya P., Audrey A., and Aanika G. comprised one of two winning teams at the Technovation Challenge South Bay Regional Junior Pitch Event this past weekend hosted by Google in Mountain View. This result qualifies them to compete in the Technovation World Pitch Summit, in August 2017.

Their project, Chip In, is a mobile app that connects homeless shelters with organizations such as hotels, who are willing to donate sheets, towels, and other essential supplies. The girls’ design was inspired by insights gleaned from a survey of local homeless shelters. A special thanks goes to their coach and mentor, Kevin Acken.

Technovation offers girls around the world the opportunity to learn the necessary skills to become Tech entrepreneurs and leaders. The girls identify a problem in their community and create a mobile app solution to address that problem and learn how to communicate these ideas and translate them into a fully launched business.
