03 sam class subtractionAt Nueva, literacy instruction has little to do with spelling lists and rote memorization. Instead, our lower and middle school students engage in Structured Word Inquiry, a learning process steeped in linguistic exploration and scientific inquiry. Rather than looking at English as a phonetic language, students look at the structure of words to uncover their definition. They make hypotheses about the meaning of words, investigate their assumptions, wrestle with wrong answers, and ultimately develop a deeper understanding of the English language.

Amid warm smiles, abundant breakfast, and beautiful music, Tea on the Plaza was a morning of renewed community. Everywhere you looked, old friends were getting reacquainted and extending their hands to welcome new families.

ILC

At Nueva, learning has never been just for students. Our mission to inspire lifelong learning encompasses parents and families, teachers and staff. Since 2007, the Innovative Learning Conference (ILC) has been one of the school’s signature events supporting that commitment.
