Amid warm smiles, abundant breakfast, and beautiful music, Tea on the Plaza was a morning of renewed community. Everywhere you looked, old friends were getting reacquainted and extending their hands to welcome new families.

On the Café Courtyard, student musicians Jackson G., Gracie F., Anisha K., Luca L., Abi W., Riley S., Riyana S., and Lucie L. serenaded guests as they arrived. Parents were welcomed back to school by heartfelt speeches from Head of School Diane Rosenberg, Board of Trustees Vice Chair Gerald Risk, Interim Lower School Head Megan Terra, and Nueva Parents Association (NPA) Co-President Arvind Sharma.

Parent participation is essential to Nueva’s success. During Tea, the beloved first day of school tradition, parents had the chance to dive in, to ask questions face to face in this inviting atmosphere, and to get acquainted with the many programs and events made possible by our vibrant community members.

Nueva invites parents to follow their passions, to participate in programs, to work on committees, and to support events that spark their excitement. In this way they come to truly understand their child(ren)’s Nueva experience, model learning, involvement, and generosity, get to know one another, and enrich our school with their gifts in so many ways. And what could be more fun than making new friends while working together towards shared objectives?CN Tea Signing Up DSC02328 1920px

“Our involvement matters to Nueva. Each of us is at Nueva because we believe it will provide our children with an excellent education. That excellence is the result of the efforts of those who came before us — administration, faculty, staff, and parents. With our involvement we continue the tradition of building Nueva through our contributions.”

Arvind Sharma, Co-President of the Nueva Parents Association

No matter what your interests and your time available, there is an activity for you. With only a few hours, you could:

  • Work with the Arts Task Force assisting in classrooms, offering a workshop, managing the arts resource database, or filling a role as a general arts booster.
  • Bring your passion for science and technology to the STEM Fair, or your love of the outdoors to the Garden Program, or your commitment to volunteerism to several student and family Community Service Days.
  • Be a Lit Club leader, or volunteer as a library assistant.
  • Satisfy your inner creator by being a classroom helper, guest speaker, judge, or user in the I-Lab helping to bring student imaginations to life. The I-Lab wants you if you love engineering, computer science, design, architecture, work in the health professions, or consider yourself a builder or tinkerer.

These are only a few of the opportunities. You can find many more on this treasured list of activities.

Please don’t hesitate to email NPA Co-Presidents Marie Yuann (LS), Buffy Poon (MS), and Arvind Sharma (US) with any questions.

Please sign-up now! We thank you in advance for your involvement and your support of the wonderful work of the NPA.
