Jana’s Academy, Knot Just about Knitting Print E-mail

On Friday, March 18, 2011 after the assembly, students eagerly raced towards the GCC lobby, and leaped in joy when they saw their name under the Knitting and Knot Theory list.  Jana Comstock is leading this academy, and is happy to have a chance to teach crocheting, and teach math. The students will to crochet a coral reef, and will learn about hyperbolic and meridian planes. This Academy is about knitting and knot theory, but there is a story behind why Jana included math in her new academy.

Day of Silence at Nueva Print E-mail

The Day of Silence is a student-led national event that brings attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, and bullying in schools. Students from middle school to college take some form of a vow of silence in an effort to encourage schools and classmates to address the problem of anti-LGBT behavior. The Day of Silence is also celebrated to acknowledge those who are teased and bullied.

Wood Gets Ready to Rain on Path Print E-mail

Caution tape has been put up around the main path from the Mansion up to the GCC. When people wish to get up to places like the GCC or upper field, they now go up the stairs right past the bridge and then use the path to the left of that. Why block off a path that is in perfectly good shape and is used a lot?

Japan Nuclear Power Plant Leaking Radiation Print E-mail

We all know that some of the nuclear reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant have leaked radiation after the largest recorded earthquake in Japan. The power plant was damaged by a tsunami that was triggered by the earthquake. There have been at least three other explosions at the power plant, and on April 7, 2011, there was an aftershock of the earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4.  Many people in Japan now are in emergency housing, and many children are completely oblivious of what is currently happening. Even with the emergency housing and food, the people are running low on money and resources. The Japanese people have been told by the government that everything is under control.

 

 
Tuvya Breaks 20 Year Record Print E-mail

Tuvya, a 4th grader, was competing in the Geography Bee hosted by National Geographic, as many of you know. Surprisingly, Tuvya broke a 20 year record.

Tuvya won the state level on the Geo Bee (1st place). This was a shocking surprise to everybody, as a 4th grader hasn't gone into the Nationals from California in 20 years. Louis, a fellow 4th grader, found an article posted with the results and e-mailed the rest of his grade and a few teachers.

Lighter, faster, slimmer! Devin? No! of course not! It’s the ipad 2!

The ipad 2 came out on March 11, 2011 at 5:00 and is the pan-ultimate revolution of technology. Coming with the smartcover that is in many colors, the ipad cover that snaps on to the ipad 2 magnetically and folds into a stand. Unlike the ipad, the ipad 2 comes in white with front and rear facing cameras for facetime and iMovie.

 
Wild weather makes mark on Nueva Print E-mail

Lately, weather going on at Nueva has been acting in all sorts of different ways. One day a flood, the next day sunny.

Now, though, the sun is coming out more and more often. Hopefully, the last rain has been coming out of the clouds. The grass has been huge in some places with plants sprouting all around. In earlier weeks it was crossing wildly from rain to sun. Some days it may be sunny in the morning and raining in the afternoon. There has even been hail added in the mix of this weather.
