Information Technology and Integrated CurriculumNew information technology skills are most often learned through the production of curriculum projects. On a typical day, one might observe a child improving keyboarding skills while composing a story; learning basic programming while animating a scientific phenomenon; publishing a research project on the web, complete with links to external resources; or using a digital camera and photo-editing software to illustrate historical change. Nueva students connect to resources on in-house servers and the internet from any of 100 wireless laptops or more than 50 desktop machines. They gain confidence in the use of a wide variety of peripherals, from digital cameras to GPS units and scientific probes. Typically, Nueva students use industry-standard applications and equipment in their pursuit of understanding. All students and staff have email accounts and online storage. We maintain flexible discussion groups, email mailing lists, a Middle School homework hotline, and an online community site to provide our entire community with the means for sharing and collaborating. |
