Thumbnail imageWest Side Story is the collaborative masterpiece of Jerome Robbins, Leonard Bernstein, and Stephen Sondheim. Set in the streets of New York in the 1950s, it is a retelling of Romeo and Juliet -- the turf war between the Polish Jets gang and the Puerto Rican Sharks, and the star-crossed love between Tony, co-founder of the Jets, and Maria, sister of the leader of the Sharks.

Thumbnail imageWest Side Story features some of the greatest music, dance, and drama in Broadway history, as well as an exploration of racism and its socioeconomic roots. In tackling the original Broadway version, Nueva students have learned about a world different from their own, pushed themselves into new theatre directions, and created a spectacular production.
