Geocaching

constellationgps300px-geocaching.svgGeocaching means using a GPS (Global Positioning System) to find hidden boxes. Caches can be hidden almost anywhere, from a city to the middle of the desert. Once you find one of these caches there is a log book for you to write your name in, and some little toys. You can take one of these toys but you have to leave something of equal or greater value.

A GPS uses three (or more) satellites to find where you are, using latitude and longitude (example: N 37°29.637’ W 122°15.275’). GPS is not that accurate: it can have an accuracy anywhere from 9 feet to 500 feet.

You can buy a GPS for about $80 - $600, I recommend the eTrex Vista Hcx made by Garmin for about $300. Also, when buying a GPS you have to buy a street map to see the roads on your GPS. Or if you have an iPhone you can buy the geocaching app for $10, but the iPhone is not as accurate as other GPSs. For more information go to http://www.geocaching.com/
