Adventure Playground

As part of their theme of "building," last week the first graders set off on a fabulous trip to Adventure Playground in the East Bay.
This is one of the most unique, creative play spaces in the world. Children are encouraged to play and build, climb, and paint.

There were interesting giant instruments made from random recycled materials on which some of the kids tried to create fun sounds. All of the parent volunteers did a terrific job assisting the builders, managing the zip line, and handing out tools.

First, we gathered around the entrance of the playground and were given some basic lessons on how to use the tools they offered. The first graders were given real tools to hammer, saw, and nail onto existing structures or build their own creations.

The children worked cooperatively as they built together or imagined they were pirates on a ship. They used the tools with confidence and safety. Many of children rode the zip line over and over again.

Kids worked together or on their own to build small projects, they climbed on the boats and towers, rode the zip line, painted forts, and played games inside them.

This was an amazing first dive into testing out their building skills for future projects.
