Chris ManganelloChris grew up down the road in Los Gatos, CA, and went to college at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo to study Parks Management. As one might deduce from his current role, Chris did not become a park ranger, but rather followed an interest into technology and education, ending up here at Nueva. In his free time, he loves to travel and do all the things that come with travelling: experiencing different cultures, people, and of course, food.

1. How did you find your way to Nueva?

My wife and I were living in Frankfurt, Germany before moving back to the Bay Area. There, we both worked at Frankfurt International School, where I had a very similar role as I do here on the Tech team. Living in Europe and being able to travel and take advantage of the MANY European holidays was a unique experience. After a couple of years, we decided we wanted to live closer to family, and luckily, I was able to find this role at Nueva.

2. What do you like to do in your free time? Any personal hobbies or passions?

Since moving back, I try to spend as much of my free time as possible outside enjoying the amazing California weather. You really take it for granted until you experience weather somewhere else (Germany is verrrrrrry gray). Being outside usually includes taking my dog with me to the beach, on hikes, or just errands around town. The rest of my time involves watching an unhealthy amount of local sports and spending time with friends and family.

3. How did you end up being involved in media and IT support?

Working at a school has always felt a bit destined. My mom is a teacher, and my wife is a high school counselor. I know how special it is to work within the school community and I have had enough experience working outside of one to be grateful that I work at a place like Nueva. That, along with my interest in technology, has helped make this the perfect spot for me. I was somewhat thrown into this role when I moved to Germany, and am happy to still be doing it and learning as much as possible.

4. Does your work change during the summer? How so?

Our work in the summer is quite different, but with summer camps, classes, events, and our internship program, it is anything but quiet. It takes a ton of work to get everything ready for a new school year, but when it’s beautiful outside, everyone seems to be in a good mood.

5. What was the most interesting help ticket request you have ever come across?

It’s hard to pick one help request that stands out among others, but I will say it’s always interesting when people aren’t quite sure which technology falls under the Tech Office (like microwaves and toasters)! That being said, we are quite good at fixing coffee machines. That might have more to do with our team’s coffee needs, however...
