USAssocTeacherEach Associate Teacher is a fully participating member of the Nueva faculty, involved in all aspects of classroom teaching as well as faculty meetings and professional development opportunities. Regular workshops explore current educational theory, curriculum design, instructional strategies, and innovative approaches to education. Over two years, Associate Teachers develop their teaching skills with the support of mentor teachers, the program director, and one another.

 Program Offerings:

  • Mentoring and modeling of best practices in education from experienced classroom teachers
  • Apprenticeship with mentor teacher in subject area, student advisory, and interdisciplinary projects
  • Regular professional development workshops focused on deepening teaching practice and exploring innovative approaches in education
  • Feedback on teaching through observation and reflection
  • Individualized coaching to achieve personal and professional goals
  • Support with job search and applying to graduate programs

Unique Skills Developed:

  • Designing and implementing novel, interdisciplinary curriculum
  • Developing strong student/teacher relationships
  • Co-leading a student advisory
  • Implementing Nueva's distinguished social-emotional learning curriculum
  • Creating design-thinking curriculum
  • Participating in curriculum-focused student trips to locations varying from Washington, D.C., to Yosemite and abroad
  • Regular assessment, narrative report writing and parent conferencing
  • Opportunities to lead teach or co-teach elective courses
  • Conflict mediation skills

Additional Opportunities:

There are several additional opportunities that may be available to Associate Teachers depending upon availability and scheduling. These include:

  • Teaching an after-school enrichment course or club
  • Coaching student athletic teams
  • Teaching a class in Nueva's summer program
