About this Site Print E-mail
The Nueva School public website furthers the mission of the school in many ways, from marketing the school to prospective parents and students to helping the school's staff, students, and parents to communicate among themselves and with each other.

Recognizing the strategic importance of the website, the school began an effort in 2004 to improve the website's ability to support the mission of the school. The goals of this project included:

  • To maintain a consistent, sophisticated, welcoming, and clean look and tone throughout the site
  • To improve the site's ability to convey the vital mission and rich character of the school
  • To increase the amount of usable information for each kind of visitor
  • To organize the site better so that people can find what they need
  • To personalize the experience based on visitor
  • To keep people coming back with fresh, rich content
  • To handle privacy issues intelligently with permissions and with passwords as needed
  • To share as much as possible with the widest possible audience and thus maintain a leadership position among progressive schools and schools for the gifted
  • To centralize the once-disparate sub-sites (NPA, Nueva Notes, etc.)

During the summer of 2005, Nueva parents Steve Capps and Diana Nemirovsky generously donated their time to develop the dynamic back-end of the site, powering the roster, login, calendar, news, and communication functionality.

The public part of the website was relaunched in January 2009. Using the open source Joomla content management system allowed us to develop it in-house, using the expertise of our teachers and students, to distribute author and editor functions throughout the school, and to incorporate Web 2.0 features and functionality.
